My Grocery Cart

Lately, I've read several great articles and posts about what some of my favorite elite runners eat on a regular basis. I love seeing how what I eat stacks up and also get new ideas for items to add to my diet.

Although my diet is by no means perfect, I decided to focus this post on the foods I eat the most - the ones you'll most likely find in my grocery cart if we ever shop together.

Let's fill the cart!

Here are the items I buy most:
  • Bagels
  • Whole grain bread
  • Fresh vegetables (cucumber, grape tomatoes, baby carrots, bell peppers, snap peas, spinach)
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Bananas
  • Peanut butter
  • Kefir, plain
  • Eggs
  • Pistachios
  • Deli meat
  • Brown rice pasta
  • Roasted red pepper and tomato soup
  • Pepperidge Farm baked cracker chips
  • Cereal bars (I like Trader Joe's Peanut Butter bars)
  • Frozen Kefir, plain (like ice cream)
  • M&Ms

Now that I've shared some of my favorites, I want to know: If we went grocery shopping together, what would you put in your cart?

I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving holiday!

  1. Sun, I'm going to take some suggestions from your grocery basket. I usually place the following items in my grocery cart:
    Whole grain bread
Whole grain pasta - usually spaghetti
    Brown rice
Fresh peppers: Jalapeno, Habanero, Serrano, and whatever else is fresh, available, and spicy.
    Green salad, spinach, and broccoli
wild-caught salmon or similar fish, tilapia
    Eggs
Canned soups: mostly black bean and lentil for the protein
    fresh fruit: bananas, apples, pears
    sometimes sliced turkey meat

    1. I need to add more fish to my diet. My main problem is cooking it - I can't seem to get the hang of it! :)

  2. Your grocery list looks pretty similar to mine, minus the soup, but I think I will start getting that more as it gets colder!

    1. Soup is my go-to winter food - warm, satisfying and filling!

  3. I didn't know that you can buy frozen kefir! Is it still creamy or does it get kinda icey?

    1. It's not as creamy or sweet as ice cream, but still pretty delicious with fruit. I also sprinkle dark chocolate chips on it sometimes and that is good as well!

  4. This is a great list! Mine is usually pretty similar, although I put all of my groceries into a folding grocery cart.

    1. Interesting - I haven't ever thought to bring my own cart to the store but I suppose if you need to walk home with your items it makes sense!
