Shorts That Go The Distance + A Oiselle Giveaway!

True Story: Back in the day, I used to pin gels to my shorts because the ones I wore did not have pockets. This was okay during training runs because I could just take a little walk break whenever I needed to take a gel. But during a race . . . this wasn't the smartest strategy. After accidentally stabbing myself with a pin during a race, I knew it was time to find a new style of shorts.

Enter Oiselle Lori Shorts. These were my first Oiselle shorts and how I was introduced to the brand. I loved these shorts because of the wider waistband and most important of all, a zippered pocket! I soon owned these shorts in every color. They were discontinued awhile back, but by then I had discovered Distance Shorts - another style of Oiselle shorts that had even more pockets for storing gels and other essential on-the-run items.

Here are a few must-know details about these shorts:

  • Three pockets! A rear-zip pocket, a side-zip pocket and an internal key pocket.

Room for plenty of gels in the side pocket . . .

And more room for gels plus a tube of Nuun in the back pocket!

  • Comfortable and flattering (read: no muffin topping) elastic waistband.
  • Flattering leg shape and length - not too short, not too long.
  • Wicking fabric + built-in undies.

The shorts are perfect for every type of run - short, long, easy or fast - and easily go from workout to post-workout activities! Here's how my friend and Oiselle teammate, Sheila, and I recently wore the shorts both during and post-workout.

By this point, I know you're all dying to know how you can get your legs into a pair of these fabulous shorts. And lucky for all of you, Oiselle has generously offered up a pair of these shorts for one Eat. Host. Run. Style. reader! Here's your chance to win:

A special thanks to Sheila for coordinating the photo shoot and editing all the pics. Kudos to you, Sheila!!

Best of luck, everyone!

  1. So cute, girls! In running shorts, I think my main thing is comfort- since I'm pretty petite, sometimes even the small shorts seem to fit strangely and just make the whole run uncomfortable. I like a pair of shorts that you can forget you're wearing. Fit and material are key.

  7. Adequate pockets/storage space and no chafing are my must haves. LOVE the Distance shorts!

  8. I need at least one pocket (larger than a key pocket) and no rubbing. I'm training for marathons and don't need to be rubbed raw by mile 15!

I must must have a pocket (big enough for ipod!) and also some compression/close fit because otherwise - the chafing!! ick.

    1. If you prefer compression, the Oiselle Stride Shorts are another great option. Honestly though, chafing has never been a problem for me with the Distance Shorts :)

  10. These are so adorable! LOVE them. I like my running shorts to be on the shorter side- I don't want to think about them at all when I'm running. I really dislike big "puffy" shorts that chafe!

  12. I've been thinking about trying the Distance short! Oiselle has yet to let me down yet. :) Pockets are an absolute must - the more the better to carry things like keys, gels, and emergency items (like bandaids). And anything that doesn't chafe between my giant quads is also a godsend. Flattering to boot? Sold.

  13. My favorite shorts!!! I love pockets (on everything, but especially running shorts), and wider waist bands that don't dig in and create rolls that aren't really there ;)

    1. Haha, yes!! I hate it when elastic waistbands create a muffin top. No one likes that look :)

    1. Oh, I love the Rogas, too. So many fabulous shorts and not enough runs during the week :)

  18. Pockets are important to me. Also, they absolutely cannot ride up. Adjusting multiple times mid-run just isn't ideal!

    1. Agreed - I've had that happen with shorts from a different brand. I was ready to rip them off midrace.

  20. I've been running in Nike Tempo shorts for a while. I generally look for a comfortable waistband and at least one pocket that I can fit a car key into. Bonus if they have a cool design or different colors that what's generally out there AND if they don't ride up my thighs when running :)

    1. The Distance Shorts meet all of your requirements :)

    2. Jen - I, too, was a die-hard Tempo lover. Until I found Oiselle's Rogas. While the tempos are still great, I find them to be a little bulky now. The Rogas are SO flattering, and incredibly functional. I have no doubt the Distance shorts offer the same flattering, functional result as the Rogas! Give 'em a shot - you won't turn back;)

  22. Length is an important thing to me. I don't like them short but not too short. I also normally only wear the tight spandexy shorts but that is probably just because I haven't found any standard running shorts that fit me just right. I love pockets!

  24. These shorts look amazing! Lots of pockets are definitely a must for me on long runs. I've never understood why companies only include the one useless key pocket on the inside... how am I going to fit a single gel in there?!

    ReplyDelete

    1. I completely agree - one inside key pocket is not enough and not everyone likes wearing an additional belt to store stuff.
